Description: This center’s website offers contacts and materials for teachers and students about Middle Eastern life and culture, and the center provides professional development for teachers on this region. The University of Pennsylvania has a long tradition of supporting the study of the cultures, languages, and history of the Middle East. It was the first university in the United States to offer Arabic language instruction, as early as 1788, and the Penn Museum has a large collection of artifacts and tablets from ancient Mesopotamia.
